Four years ago, a single mother receiving public assistance put her newborn baby in the care of a New York State hospital for a single day. One day. Her Medicaid coverage had temporarily lapsed and the resulting bill from the hospital came out to $12,000. TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. The hospital sued and now she's paying them $100 a month "for the rest of my life." And, unbelieveably and mind-numbingly, there are people out there -- including one political party's presidential candidates and elected leaders -- who vehemently insist that WE DON'T NEED HEALTHCARE REFORM LAWS.
